Pack up the kids, the suitcases, and the sense of adventure in the station wagon and head for America’s mountain. This is the perfect place for a family road trip to a Colorado getaway–funky and fun enough for the kids and comfortable enough for the adults. This lovely private cottage is walking distance to all the best in Old Colorado City! It’s especially great if you’re looking for a charming little place that’s close to the action. Kiddos will love the bunk beds and whimsical decor while adults will love the comfy queen bed and relaxing colors. Plenty of clean linens, an eating/work area, and a quaint living room are all yours in this Colorado getaway. It’s minutes from Garden of the Gods, walks to shopping, dining, coffee, and entertainment, and is just a short drive downtown.
The space
The cottage is well-decorated, clean, and more spacious than a hotel suite. It’s the little Colorado cottage of your dreams. Especially if your dreams include a purple couch.
Guest access
You get private access to the cottage and a small fenced area.
Interaction with guests
I try to meet my guests at check-in if at all possible, and I usually contact them once in a while to make sure all is well, but other than that I give them space unless they ask for something. I do love to share local advice on adventures, dining, and entertainment and to help you get the most out of your time in the wonderful Pikes Peak region so don’t hesitate to ask!
Other things to note
Although pets are not allowed in the cottage, you should know there is a very nice labrador named Evie on the other side of the fence. She might bark occasionally, and kids and adults may be playing in the adjacent yard.
Amenities
No open flames
Old Colorado City is about halfway between downtown and Ute Pass, where you would drive to Pikes Peak or the mountains west of Colorado Springs. It has plenty of galleries, shopping, dining, ice cream, entertainment, coffee, parks, a public library, and more. It’s one of the best neighborhoods in town! Approximately June through October we have a weekly farmers market on Saturdays in Bancroft park which is just a couple of blocks away from the cottage!
This little cottage walks to all the best of Old Colorado City including the Pikes Peak Farmer’s Market (Saturdays summer and early fall in Bancroft Park), public library, funky coffee shop Jives (or walk just a little further for a swankier vibe and snootier cuppa at Carnelian Coffee) and of course the classic Colorado City Creamery for a treat after hiking in Garden of the Gods (just 2.8 miles away from the cottage, by the way).
For those looking for more of a grown-up adventure how about Salsa or Swing dancing at The Loft Music Venue, tasting chef prepared fare and explore a great wine list at Garden of the Gods Market and Cafe (a short drive), taking in unique jewelry and fine art at The Squash Blossom, or kicking back for some brews, laughs, and barbeque to the tune of local and national rootsy music acts at the always colorful local hang, Front Range Barbeque?
Getting around
There is a bus route down Colorado Avenue (1 block away) but most guests will have a car. There’s usually plenty of street parking unless an event is going on that has the streets crowded.
